Goodbye To The Rubbish: Derby Are Relegated
Derby boss Paul Jewell says his club must learn the harsh lessons of their dismal Barclays Premier League season, after their relegation was finally sealed with a 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday.
The Rams still need five more points to beat Sunderland's record low top-flight total of 15 for the season, and Jewell insists he will take his full share of responsibility for their plight.
"I've been in charge for 20-odd games and we haven't got enough points," he conceded.
"I think there were mitigating circumstances - but I am not hiding behind anyone else and I will take the criticism.
"Whatever happens this season, we can't just write it off. We have all made mistakes and we have to learn from them and come back better from it."
The Rams went down fighting, Emanuel Villa grabbing a 79th-minute equaliser after Hameur Bouazza's heavily deflected effort appeared to have given Fulham a long-awaited away win.
But Jewell acknowledged his side's bright performance on this occasion could not obscure the fact that they have been woefully short of quality since their top-flight campaign began in August.
Bye Derby...up next probably Bolton. ![]()
or it should read "down next" not "up next". ![]()
fulham bolton going down.
bolton still have to face lpool and arsenal so...
bolton and fulham..most prob....don wish to see keano's sunderland going down as well as brim![]()
all the other relagation candinates besides Derby actually play decent football. actually if Derby have more pacy forwards and wingers, theyd put on more of a fight too as their midfield is actually decent with Robbie Savage, David Jones and Hossam Ghaly.
im picking Boltan to go down and Fulham to slip the next few wks, time fr them to go down.
Fulham wouldn't be where they are if they had bullard and mcbride back earlier.....
sigh....sad to see them going down...

Kevin Davies earned Bolton three priceless points against West Ham in a lively encounter at the Reebok Stadium.
They should have led by half-time as Davies saw two headers cleared off the line and El-Hadji Diouf had a goal ruled out for offside.
Davies finally found the net after the break, poking home after Jonathan Spector had impeded his own goalkeeper.
Dean Ashton's overhead shot tipped onto the bar was West Ham's best chance in a frantic second half as Bolton held on.

Fulham sealed their first away win in 33 matches against fellow strugglers Reading to keep alive their hopes of avoiding Premier League relegation.
Brian McBride fired home a Simon Davies cross from close range on 23 minutes to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Fulham hit the bar three times in the second-half before Erik Nevland scored the decisive second, driving home from 15 yards in the dying minutes.
Reading's best chance came when Kevin Doyle headed just wide on 40 minutes.
Fulham started the day with the knowledge that any result other than a win would make relegation all but a certainty.

the relegation battle will probably go down to the last day and its incredibly hard to predict.
Currenly, derby has already relegated and most likely, fulham will follow suit. Birmingham is one point behind bolton and reading but they have a superior goal difference. Another good thing for birmingham they have 2 home games, 1 away game while for bolton and reading, they have 2 away games and 1 home games.
Reading's terribly bad goal difference will means they will almost certainly go out if they are level on points at the end of the day.
But personally, i think bolton will still relegate.
