The Irishman steered the Black Cats to Premiership safety this term, but is known to be fiercely ambitious.
FIrst
came a cull of squad memebers he considered to be dead wood and is
reportedly targeting UK-reared quality as he aims to challenge at the
right end of the table.
"Do we want a wow factor? The priority
will be getting players who can take us to the next level, not a fancy
name or someone with long hair," Keane insisted.
"I don't want
to face a relegation battle every year as a manager - I want more. It
is a very important summer for us to bring in top quality players.
We're not far from challenging clubs just above us.
"We could do with a smaller squad but a lot more quality. That's what we need.
"I
haven't got a figure in my head. They might surprise me and say 'have
£200m' and I might fall off my chair. Or 200-grand maybe. I've got a
list of players I want and the list is not that big.
"We want to excite the fans, but I need exciting too. I want to be excited."
