Premiership runners-up Arsenal are to pay
a transfer fee of 15 million euros (23.5 million dollars) to acquire
20-year-old French international Samir Nasri from Ligue 1 side
Olympique de Marseille, the daily L'Equipe reported Wednesday on its
web site.
Considered by many, including Real Madrid, to be the second coming of
the great Zinedine Zidane, Nasri spent four seasons at Marseille, and
became a cornerstone of the side.
The young midfielder had physical problems during the 2007-2008 season,
including a bout of viral meningitus. But his recovery coincided with
Marseille's late run to snatch third place in Ligue 1 and a spot in the
Champion's League qualifying competition.
Nasri has won seven caps with France, scoring two goals, and is certain
to be among the 23 players chosen by coach Raymond Domenech to take
part in Euro 2008.
