The former England boss has walking the tightrope at Eastlands for
several weeks, with City owner Thaksin Shinawatra expected to
officially axe the Swede any day.
Eriksson only took charge of
the Sky Blues last summer and steered them to their best Premier League
finish in years, but the only reward he is likely to receive is a
₤1million severance package.
The Mexicans are expected to offer
the ex-Roma coach a two-year contract worth ₤4.5million, which would
expire after the 2010 World Cup.
Eriksson plans to watch El Tri’s
upcoming friendlies against Argentina and Peru before reaching a
decision, but Mexican FA chief executive Justino Compean hopes to have
the deal wrapped up as soon as possible.
Compean said: “We expect us to close this deal on June 2 and the day after we will present our new national coach.”
