The Bernabéu club's president was fielding questions from the club's
supporters when he was asked what would happen if the Portuguese star
arrived and demanded he wear the shirt.
However unlikely that is
to happen this summer, Calderón reiterated that while Madrid seeks to
sign the world's best players, Raúl remains is symbolic to the club.
"We
do not know if he is going to come, but he is not going to remove the
number from Raúl, that is untouchable whoever joins," he said.
In
a homage to Raúl and to the late Madrid favourite Juanito, Calderón
even suggested that he may retire the number seven shirt when the
current incumbent eventually hangs up his boots.
Juanito, who
was killed in a car accident in 1992, played for Madrid between 1977
and 1987 and was such an idol that fans used to chant his name in the
seventh minute of every game as a homage.
David Beckham's
arrival at the Spanish giants in 2003 saw the potential for a problem
after his time in the number seven shirt at Old Trafford, but the
English midfielder willingly chose number 23 rather than suggest Raúl
give up his shirt.
siao... if they want ronaldo, should say smth like "we would even take the number off Raul's shirt just for him(ronaldo)"
just stay at man utd la
simple decision oso need to think.
