The veteran defender who has
been at the club for all of his career will play on until he his 41. He has
made over 600 appearances for the Rossoneri and he will be the oldest player in
Europe still playing at the highest level.
Maldini himself announced that he would retire this year but it seems as if the player
cannot get enough of the beautiful game.
Milan announced the extension on their official website and
the statement reads:
“Paolo Maldini has extended
his deal with Milan
until 30 June 2009.
“By the time he ends his
career, he will have enjoyed 41 unique years of great success with one passion
and one colour.”
During his time with Milan the player has won
an endless list of trophies including seven Scudetti and a record five
Champions League trophies as well a Coppa Italia, two Intercontinental Cups and
one Club World Cup.

“Everyone was worried that it
was really the end because everyone expected it,” Maldini told Milan Channel.
“It was the first time that I
and Adriano sat down together. We both had the desire for me to carry on and so
it was not really a difficult decision.
“My decision at first was to
retire but seeing that everyone at the club wanted me to stay I decided to
continue.
“I love playing football and
I still believe I can do well.”
