Italian conspiracy theorists will be out in force after an indefensible error by Swedish assistant referee Stefan Wittberg gave Holland the early lead their play deserved. Ruud van Nistelrooy was clearly in an offside position as the ball was shot towards goal and became active by playing the ball into the unguarded Italian net.
The assistant's error was difficult to understand given his clear, unobstructed view. Referee Peter Frodjfelt will be hoping UEFA overlook his colleague's error as he was one of the pre-tournament favourites to handle the final, but the mistake could prove costly - and not only to the Azzurri.
Italy will lose one la with or without the goal. They lack hunger after their world cup success whereas holland is envious of italy's achievement. Even if the goal did count, if italy is a good team, they would have won/eqaulised or at most lose by a goal.
Sad days is when good strikers boots are not zeroed for goal,if thats the case then the defence need to work hard for a draw. It's called the Lampard syndrome

hahaha... this could be very debatable...
But certainly, italy lost their cool after the first goal and subsequently allowed holland to score 2 more goals...
wahhh
And so?
u tink u highlite red font beri sutt izit.
u oladi knew all the clauses b4hand or u copy & paste de?
if it appeared offside, of coz they muz look into it lah.
u tok until machiam u inside the committee to decide whether got offside anot.
hey where is your black kitty avatar?
I believe none of the players knew or analysed that particular clause in the laws of the game. RVN kept turning his head to the assistant.
Credit to the refree and his assistant if that decision was made from a split-second analysis of rule 11 rather than a failure to spot an erroneous offside.
I know about this law/clause long ago (though not exactly). I am surprised no one here actually say he knows about it too. I am pretty sure the linesman know about this if he do his homework regularly.
what i know is: defenders purposely run to the goaline, pretending to be injured and causing the strikers to be offside. Where got such thing?
haha.
yayaya.
ya rite!
u oladi knew bt u dare not say in ur prev post?

i will put bk after the final when germany emerges as the champ.
italy's defence very jialat.
RVN's goal was obviously offside. Holland were the better team and deserves the win.

The goal is not offside, read the posts above.

There's been quite some debate of did Panucci did play him onside under the rules, that's quite a grey area needed to be sorted out I guess.
Maybe they will just apologize for the confusion, state the refree's decision is final and probably come out with a new rule.
Since the goal is awarded already and the match is long over, no use erasing the goal.
What for right? Maradona also admit he used his hand to score the goal. No point taking the goal away right since argentina already won the world cup that year.
This offside rule is to chim to debate so we have to again quote Wong Kan Seng 'Let's move on'
yupz!
haha.
One thing that surprised me was how well Khalid Boulahrouz played... lol
He was like rock solid in the Dutch defence... A totally different player than the one at Chelsea... ![]()

ya
this is a stupid logic. panucci clashed with buffon and got injured. he did not walk off the field. how can someone injured outside the field be considered onside? i seriously doubt anyone on or off the field can instantly read that situation correctly as onside.
