Boss Scolari slammed as a 'hypocrite'

  PHIL SCOLARI was last night accused of hypocrisy and even betrayal — by his own Portuguese players. The Portugal boss stunned his stars with the shock announcement he will leave for Chelsea after Euro 2008.

   

  Big Phil confirmed the news at a team meeting in Neuchatel, Switzerland, just hours after Wednesday’s 3-1 win over the Czech Republic.

   

  Just days earlier he told his team — including Real Madrid target Cristiano Ronaldo — they must not talk about their futures until after the tournament. It is even more surprising because he pulled the plug on a move to Benfica when the news leaked out at Euro 2004.

   

  A source said: “Some of the players feel betrayed by Scolari’s announcement. "They feel it was a case of ‘Do as I say, not as I do’. “Players have been thinking about what he said and wondering what his motives were — and how much was true.”

  BALLACK HAILS SCOLARI APPOINTMENT

  

  
  

  Michael Ballack has welcomed the appointment of Luiz Felipe Scolari as Chelsea manager despite his memories of the 2002 World Cup final. Scolari was in charge of Brazil when they defeated Germany in Japan, a game which Ballack sat out through suspension.

   

  Ballack admits it was a painful experience but insists there can be no hard feelings towards Scolari as the experienced tactician prepares to take the reins at Stamford Bridge after Euro 2008.

   

  The Germany midfielder has nothing but respect for Scolari and feels he should be able to lead the Blues to glory. "Even though I didn't play, the World Cup final was one of the worst times of my career," Ballack recalled. "But, of course, I forgive Scolari now he is my Chelsea manager.
