Hughes in £8m Diarra deal

Mark Hughes has triggered Manchester City's summer spending spree by making an £8million bid for Portsmouth's Lassana Diarra.
The former Blackburn boss and Manchester United legend is targeting the ex-Chelsea and Arsenal defensive midfielder. He is currently on duty with France at Euro 2008 and sources from the camp have revealed that City are moving in for Diarra, the News of the World says.
His reputation has soared since Harry Redknapp prised him from Arsenal during the January transfer window in a £5m deal. The player made a huge impact and played a leading role in Pompey's FA Cup success.
