Kuyt denies Hiddink’s Dutch advantage
Dirk Kuyt has rejected the suggestion that Gus Hiddink’s experience of Dutch football at club and national level will give Russia the edge over their opponents. Hiddink coached the Oranje at Euro 96 and World Cup 98, but the Liverpool and Holland player does not feel that Hiddink will have a greater insight into the Dutch side than any other well-researched coach at the tournament.
“He knows our team very well but I don’t think that will make a big difference,” said Kuyt. “In football today every top manager of a country knows everything about his opponents. That won’t be a big surprise. Everybody knows how we play and how we could play. It doesn’t matter that much.”
As a former Feyenoord star, Kuyt faced Hiddink’s PSV side on numerous occasions during his time in Holland and retains a great respect for the man. “It will be nice to play against him because he’s one of the best managers Holland ever had,” declared Kuyt. “I know him well. He was never my manager but I know him as a person and he’s done good things for Holland as well. He’s a very nice man and a really good manager.”
Kuyt will hope to be rewarded for his good form at Euro 2008 with a place in the starting line-up against Hiddink’s Russia, but as usual the hard-working player is more concerned with his team’s success.
“We are enjoying it, we’re playing well and I think we deserve it. We will try to keep it going. The group was fine but now the big games are coming and a small mistake can cost you the tournament.
“We are already now focussed on the game on Saturday and if we prepare right and perform the same way we have a really good chance to get to the semi-finals.”
Favourites Vs Underdogs, must watch lor...
Russia might just repeat the feat Greece did in the previous EURO! with Guus Hiddink as the manager, anything is possible!
but, Holland is just too strong for any bestest of best underrated team!

Is Andrei Arshavin really that good? Well, we will get to see later tonight...
Dutch in Russian's sights in Euro 2008 quarter-final
Russian striker Andrei Arshavin has warned Marco van Basten's Holland to expect his side's attacking machine to hit top gear for Saturday's Euro 2008 quarter-final.
The 27-year-old forward was the man-of-the-match as Russia booked a last eight berth - to set up a tantalising reunion between Russia's Dutch coach Guus Hiddink and his compatriots in what is in effect a rematch of the 1988 final between the Dutch and the then Soviet Union - with a 2-0 win over Sweden in Innsbruck on Wednesday night to clinch second place in Group D behind Spain.
The Zenit St Petersburg star says his side squandered numerous chances against the Swedes - just as they did in the 1-0 win against Greece - and insists the Dutch could feel the full force of their goalscoring fire-power at St. Jakob-Park on Saturday.
"I don't think we needed to score that many goals in the Swedish game," said Arshavin. "We need to save them for the next games and I hope we will score a few against the Dutch."
Having sat out Russia's first two Euro 2008 matches through suspension, Arshavin showed what his side had been missing as he dominated Sweden.
He provided the movement which led to Roman Pavlyuchenko's 24th-minute opener and then turned goal-scorer himself on 50 minutes to set up the meeting with van Basten's powerful Dutch team.
And for Russia's former Holland coach Guus Hiddink, Saturday's game promises to be a special occasion. "Why not," replied Hiddink to a question regarding whether his side could beat the Dutch. "The only thing that worries me, is that the Dutch will have had five days more rest than us (as most of the first team missed the Romania clash).
Holland is likely to be winner.
Of the 4 Quart-finals, this is the easiest to take sides... But what if... ![]()

Nope still 0-0.
Holland having a tough time against the Russians.
russia is good man
3 is like too much
i say 2-0
Hmm..... the Dutch seem to be more pedestrian than usual.
The Russkies are playing rather well... their tactic seems to be to deny the Dutch freedom of movement and space.
I'd still count on Holland to win.... though Russia might just get lucky.

there had been so many upset. Portugal out but Germany played their best game so far.
