Lilian Thuram has declared that a heart defect has been detected during the medical he undertook prior to signing a one-year deal with Paris Saint Germain.
The 36-year-old was due to end his glorious career at Parc des Princes, but a heart problem has prevented him from putting pen to paper.
The former Barcelona centre back could now end his career on a negative note after 17 years at the very top level of football.
The France legend is waiting for the results of further tests that will be known in one month's time before making a decision regarding his career.
“I’m doing this press conference, not to announce my engagement with PSG unfortunately, but to tell you the doctors have detected a heart defect,” Thuram said.
“It looks like it’s the same illness my brother had a few years ago that cost him his life on a basketball court."
