Aston Villa have disciplined Liverpool target Gareth Barry for his outspoken comments in the media about manager Martin O'Neill.
The England midfielder is pushing for a move to Anfield but the Merseysiders have refused to meet Villa's valuation of their captain, which is believed to be £18 million.
O'Neill was stung by criticism from Barry who claimed his priority was working on TV covering Euro 2008 rather than discussing his skipper's situation.
Despite reports in various sources on Wednesday morning that Rafa Benitez had upped his bid for the 27-year-old, the Villa boss has pointed out that this is wide of the mark.
"There's no truth in this morning's reports and the situation remains the same," O'Neill told Villa's official website.
"Gareth will not be returning to training tomorrow and he has been disciplined after giving an unauthorised interview to the News of the World."
LOL, 18m is too much for him. He's not even a england regular.
18 million is more than enough.

Not going to happen cos they have already offer $12m for a start and it has been rejected... so $10m is rather out of the question...
Aston Villa have confirmed they have rejected another bid from Liverpool for club captain Gareth Barry.
The England international is at the centre of one of the most prolonged sagas of the summer so far with Villa remaining steadfast in their reported £18 million valuation of the player.
Reports on Wednesday claimed that The Reds had tabled a final offer worth £17 million, but this specific suggestion has been rubbished by the Midlanders.
Instead, Villa have revealed that a new offer was received from Anfield but that the latest approach was swiftly denied.
“The report in today’s paper of a £17 million offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate,” read a club statement.
“The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa’s evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected.”
Barry has been disciplined by Villa after an interview on Sunday in which he criticised manager Martin O’Neill and pleaded for a move to Anfield.
$15m lah... This ah ben want to buy players offer low low price and want to sell his own players expensively...
other clubs willing splash on english players. liverpool doesn't want to
i still see that liverpool needs proven EPL players to last in the premier league. so just splash it on him.
benitez can use his flair players all he wants in the UCL.
Kop snub £18m deal for Barry
LIVERPOOL will refuse to pay the £18million Aston Villa want for Gareth Barry. But they are still hopeful of doing a deal before Villa head for a pre-season training camp in Switzerland on Tuesday.
Skipper Barry has been banned from the club and fined £100,000 for criticising boss Martin O’Neill over the handling of the proposed move and his exit looks certain.
But Kop chief executive Rick Parry insists their fee limit is set at £15m. The dispute is likely to be resolved by including a series of add-on clauses. Liverpool have until August 7 to register the England midfielder for their Champions League third-round qualifier.
Manager Rafa Benitez is looking forward to Danish defender Daniel Agger’s return, after an eight-month broken foot KO. Benitez admitted: “We missed him.”
