Martin O’Neill has revealed Aston Villa have sent a proposal to Liverpool, as the haggling over Gareth Barry continues.
The two clubs have spent much of the summer bartering over a fee for the England international and the saga seems to have some distance left to run.
Villa are believed to be holding out for £18 million for the midfielder, while it has been claimed Liverpool value the 26-year-old at £15 million.
Reports suggest O’Neill may be prepared to lower the price if Liverpool throw in Steve Finnan as makeweight and although refusing to confirm what is on the table, the Ulsterman has confirmed The Reds are in possession of his demands.
“Liverpool have come back to us and we have responded to their proposal with a letter,’’ the Villa manager told the Daily Post. “We’re still waiting to hear back from Liverpool after putting that proposal to them.
“It’s really up to Liverpool. I really don’t know how it’s going to work out at the moment. I’m sure there will be some sort of resolution at some stage or another.”
