ARSENAL have made a sensational 11th-hour move to hijack Gareth Barry’s move to Liverpool. The Mersey giants were locked in high-level talks with Aston Villa all day yesterday, as they haggled over the price for the Midlanders’ captain.
But Gunners boss Arsene Wenger declared his own interest in midweek and Arsenal officials have contacted Villa to find out the latest position. While no official bid has been lodged, the Gunners are prepared to offer cash plus a fringe player like defender Justin Hoyte.
Wenger would be able to increase his bid if Emmanuel Adebayor and Alex Hleb were to be sold, as they could bring in around £45m between them. He has long admired Barry and, having lost Mathieu Flamini to AC Milan and with Gilberto heading for Panathinaikos, has decided to act.
Villa are holding out for £18m cash. If Arsenal agreed a deal, Barry would become their record buy. Liverpool do not want to go higher than £15m cash plus add-ons, which would take the eventual fee to £17m.
it is quite sad to see gilberto leave.
his experience would have help the younger player.
barry would have been a good replacement for flamini.
if not, i hope diaby, alex song to fill the void left by flamini.
why no want go for senna? he was fastastic in euro08 forspain.
If Wenger manage to steal this deal, Rafa will be really upset... And who knows, maybe Villa may be more willing to sell to Arsenal than Pool with O'Neill still unhappy with the way Pool unsettled Barry...
i tink barry wants to move to liverpool to team up with gerrad than coming to arsenal with fabregas.
you mean arsenal is willing to pay more than liverpool for barry with an is already an inflated price? mmmm....the sun will rise from the west.
sounds good.. Arsenal does need a holding midfielder so that Fab would be able to do his magic and with Nasir coming in all they'll need is another striker to fill the gap should Abe leaves... or allow that Bend to realise his potential
HOHO~
maybe that why Aw is rushing to sell ADU.
villa should just sell barry to liverpool, and leave arsenal without a def mid. but than again with the $$ arsenal are likely to get from selling adebayor they cld just buy someone else. anyhow, i think barry would rather join gerrard at liverpool than cross over to arsenal.
