Klaas Jan Huntelaar has been linked to a move to The Premier League over the summer, but it appears the talented striker will stay put, as Ajax's new manager Marco van Basten has named him his new captain.
A statement on the Eredivisie side’s official website announces that Huntelaar will have the honour to wear the armband at Amsterdam Arena next season, which shows how important the player will be for his new coach.
Manchester United, Arsenal and Real Madrid have all been linked to the athletic player, whose future seems to lie in The Netherlands.
Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg will be his vice-captain, but the duo have not started the pre season training program with their team-mates yet, as they are still in holiday following their participation in Euro 2008 in June.
Van Basten aims high and has declared that: “The primary goal is to win at national level. But good results in Europe are of course also more than welcomed. We will see how far we can go in the Uefa Cup.”
Looks like no one has actually gone in for him to date... But who knows, the transfer window is still open...
