A single goal at Wembley was enough to seal their second ever FA Cup and their first in 69 years.
It
was also Harry Redknapp's first ever major honour as a player of
manager, and as such the team will be honoured following a council
meeting yesterday, though it is not to be finalised until July 31.
The team are to be given the Freedom of the City by Portsmouth City Council.
There will also be a sign at the entrance to the city reading: Home of Pompey, FA Cup Winners 2008.
The
Council are also looking into the possibility of renaming one of the
bells in Guildhall to play the club's anthem, the Pompey Chimes.
"It
was very much Portsmouth Football Club's day at Tuesday's meeting of
Portsmouth City Council," revealed Portsmouth City Council's chief
executive, David Williams.
"The councillors - still overjoyed at
the club's FA Cup success - and in the presence of the cup itself,
started the formal process towards granting Freedom of the City for the
squad and Harry Redknapp.
"A special council meeting to decide on this will be held at the Guildhall on Thursday of next week."
