Yesterday evening, Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo
Corvino announced that an official bid from the Giallorossi had been lodged for
the Romanian, an offer believed to be in the region of €20m.
The Italian press firmly believe that Mutu will make the
move, and Roma have now confirmed that they have indeed tabled an offer.
“With
reference to the news printed yesterday, Roma would like to confirm that they
have made an offer for the full rights to Mutu,” reads a club statement.
"We are waiting to hear Fiorentina’s decision and reserve the right to
release any further details when we choose.”
Mutu took part in training with his Viola team-mates today,
and once the session is over he will hold key talks with his current employers
over his future.
It is expected that the 29-year-old will tell the club’s
leadership that he wants to join Roma, a stance that should facilitate the
transfer.
Fiorentina, who earlier today were linked with Inter striker
Adriano, are now being associated with Antonio Di Natale, Goran Pandev and Alessandro Rosina as a
possible replacement for Mutu.
