The England midfielder, 26, received an honourary fellowship to mark his contribution to sport from the Liverpool John Moores University during a ceremony at the city's Anglican cathedral.
Gerrard said: I am very proud to become a fellow of Liverpool John Moores University. "Not only has the university done so much for the city and people of Liverpool but it has given the science of football international credibility. "It is an honour to be recognised with this award."

England and Liverpool football star Steven Gerrard received an university honorary fellowship at a graduation ceremony in Liverpool today.
WAG Alex Curran watched on with pride as the 28-year-old midfielder was given the award by Liverpool John Moores University.
Gerrard, who was awarded the MBE last year, traded his football strip for a colourful gown and cap, proudly showing off his award after the ceremony.
He posed up alongside Curran, who committed the ultimate WAG faux pas by wearing the same yellow Roland Mouret dress Victoria Beckham wore just weeks ago.
The accolade was awarded to mark the Anfield club captain's contribution to sport.

Battle of the WAGS: Alex was wearing the same Roland Mouret dress that Posh wore to an awards ceremony earlier this month.
