Russia playmaker Andrei Arshavin could be a Tottenham player inside five days, according to his club Zenit St Petersburg.
It is expected that the 27-year-old will become the latest high profile arrival at White Hart Lane this summer - following Giovani dos Santos, Luka Modric and David Bentley – as Juande Ramos continues to add flair and creativity to his attacking options.
Arshavin’s agent claimed on Wednesday that his client has already agreed personal terms but that negotiations between the two clubs continue as a difference in perspective over his valuation is ‘really huge’.
It is believed that Zenit are holding out for £21.5 million as they prepare to lose their finest asset, with Spurs reluctant to match that asking price after a summer of high spending in North London.
Zenit official Konstantin Sarsaniya has hinted that an agreement could be close though, with the club also confirming that Arshavin is ready to move to White Hart Lane.
“We have certain contacts with Tottenham, but when they will conclude, I still do not know,” Sarsaniya told Sports.ru.
“Maybe within five days, maybe sooner, maybe later.
“Tottenham have an interest in the player, and I understand that the player has an interest in the club too.”
