Aston Villa have completed the signing of Luke Young from Middlesbrough.
The 29-year-old becomes the club’s second signing of the day after Nicky Shorey joined from Reading and Young admits he feels he is taking a step up by moving to Villa Park.
“I’m really pleased to be here at Villa,” he told the club’s official website.
“One minute I was training up at Boro and the next I’m down here for a medical.
“Obviously I’m glad to be here now, but it could have been a year earlier. There was interest last summer but it didn’t happen for whatever reason. I’m just glad to be here now.
“I think this is a great opportunity for me to try and win something. I think at the moment Villa are a notch above Boro and there’s a great opportunity for me to play European football as well.”
The transfer fee was believed to be in the region of £5m.
