Why Wenger Chose Gallas For Captaincy

Despite William Gallas' controversial sit-in at the close of Arsenal's score draw with Birmingham, Arsene Wenger has decided to let his number 10 keep the armband for another season.
Arsenal boss Wenger believes that the France international deserves another season captaining his young side. Speaking ahead of Arsenal's next pre-season tournament, the prestigious Amsterdam Trophy, he told the club's official website:
"William will be captain again, and Kolo Toure will be his assistant. He got a lot of criticism after what happened at Birmingham last season but until then everybody said he was fantastic. He acknowledges that he made mistakes and he has learned from it."
Wenger continued: "William was not the most gifted player when he was younger. He is where he is because of a good evaluation of his own performance - that is what makes the big players. If you speak to a big player after a game they can always assess what they have done right and wrong."
On Gallas' position in his squad, Arsene added: "William is an important player in the team, he plays in a position where it is easier to be captain," perhaps thinking of Cesc Fabregas, the Frenchman conceded: "and as well, some players who could be captain are still young."
"He deserves another go to show his commitment and then we will see where we stand at the end of the season." -
