Blackburn have confirmed receiving and promptly rejecting a bid from Manchester City for star striker Roque Santa Cruz.
Former Rovers manager Mark Hughes is seeking to stamp his authority amid shenanigans at City and it comes as little surprise that he has tried for a player whom he brought to Ewood Park a year ago.
The 26-year-old Paraguayan, a £3.3 million signing from Bayern Munich, was one of the biggest success stories in The Premier League last season, scoring 19 goals for Hughes and Rovers in his debut campaign in England.
Santa Cruz’s form means he is viewed as indispensable by the Lancashire side, who are irked by City's persistent attempts to unsettle last season's top scorer.
"A bid came in last night and it was immediately rejected,” read a statement on Rovers’ official website.
"Various Manchester City officials have been advised on a number of occasions that the player would not be for sale.
"We are very disappointed, therefore, that they have continued their interest."
