On the eve of the new football season, Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has secured his fourth signing of the summer with Argentina international Fabricio Coloccini penning a five-year contract at St James’ Park.
The curly-haired 26-year-old has completed his protracted £10 million departure from Deportivo La Coruna and will wear the number two shirt at St James’ Park.
Coloccini is a consistent performer having appeared in every minute of Depor’s 2007-2008 league campaign and his addition will significantly bolster Newcastle’s central defence.
More good news arrived on Friday morning, with confirmation from Fifa that Jonas Gutierrez is eligible for a debut against Manchester United on Saturday.
Coloccini’s compatriot, nicknamed Spiderman due to his mask-wearing goal celebrations, joined Newcastle from Mallorca in July but the 24-year-old has been awaiting clearance to make his competitive debut.
