Manchester City’s alarming start to the new season took another grievous blow on Sunday when Valeri Bojinov sustained an Achilles injury in his side’s pre-match warm-up at Aston Villa that could sideline the Bulgarian for six months.
Bojinov had been slated to start the game on his own up front but 15 minutes before kick off pulled up holding his ankle.
The player later appeared on crutches with his leg heavily strapped.
A lengthy absence if it is confirmed will come as a crushing blow to the player who missed virtually the whole of last season after damaging cruciate ligaments in the Manchester derby last August.
