Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Robin van Persie will undergo an X-ray following his withdrawal from Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday.
“He is having an X-ray at the moment,” Wenger told reporters. “We don’t know (the full extent of the injury).
“We have to check his ankle. Hopefully nothing is broken, I don’t know yet.”
Van Persie turned in a highly impressive display in the win over Newcastle, scoring twice before his substitution in the 63rd minute.
Arsenal had to make do without the 25-year-old for long spells of last season, a campaign which was interrupted by injury for the Holland international.
Meanwhile, Wenger confirmed he would be working right up until the close of the transfer window at midnight on Monday to bring in a new midfielder.
"We are trying to buy new players," he added. "But the problem is always first of all, the availability and also the fact that it's finding players who are better or at least as good as the ones we already have."

Fears over Robin van Persie’s injury have subsided with the news that the Arsenal star should be fit to play in both of Holland’s upcoming international fixtures.
The forward sustained an ankle injury in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Newcastle at the weekend and, with the player’s long history of fitness problems, the sight of him hobbling off the Emirates Stadium pitch was concerning.
Van Persie has since undergone a scan on the injury and reports in Holland claim that only bruising has been discovered.
What is certain is that he trained with the rest of his Oranje team-mates on Tuesday and now has a chance of featuring in the friendly international against Australia on Saturday.
Van Persie may also be in contention for Holland’s first World Cup qualifier when Bert van Marwijk’s side tackle Macedonia next Wednesday.
Wait he go and play international match then come back injure again... He usually gets injure playing in these internationals... Then Arsenal has to pay the price...
