Jose Mourinho's first Serie A game in charge of Inter Milan ended in a 1-1 draw at Sampdoria on Saturday night.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic - whose two goals on the final day of last season earned Inter their third successive Scudetto - opened the scoring in the 33rd minute.
But Gennaro Delvecchio netted a deserved equaliser for the hosts in the 68th minute, and neither side could find a winner in a pulsating finale at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
In Saturday's only other game, Antonio Di Natale scored twice as Udinese began their season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Palermo.
The Italy international put the home side in control with two first-half strikes and although Palermo threatened a comeback when Mark Bresciano scored, highly-rated midfielder Gokhan Inler settled the contest shortly after.
