Luiz Felipe Scolari has revealed that Arsenal tried to sign Salomon Kalou in the summer.
On the rare occasions Kalou starts for Chelsea, it is generally as a wide player, but Scolari disclosed that Arsene Wenger was interested in using him as a centre forward at Arsenal.
Scolari says he rebuffed the approach from The Gunners and admits he will also consider using him in a central position.
"If you ask Arsene Wenger, he wants Kalou as a centre-forward and Arsene is an intelligent man," Scolari said.
"He wanted Kalou two or three months ago when we started negotiations for some players. I said no.
"If he loves Kalou as a number nine, I [will] try it sometimes. But I have Anelka, Drogba and [(Franco] Di Santo."
Di Santo made his Premier League debut for Chelsea when he came on as a late substitute for Nicolas Anelka in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham.
