Jimmy Bullard has spoken of his pride at being handed an England call-up by Fabio Capello.
Capello pulled a rabbit out of the hat when naming Bullard in his squad for the World Cup qualifiers with Andorra and Croatia.
A host of midfield names had been bandied about as the replacement for Steven Gerrard, but Fulham star Bullard had not featured on the radar.
The call came as a bolt out of the blue for Bullard, but he claims it is just reward for the work he has put in since returning from injury.
“I'm absolutely buzzing,” Bullard told the club’s official website. “To represent England has been my ambition ever since I was a young boy and to be called up by Fabio Capello is just a dream come true for me.
"I’ve been working hard since my return from injury and I’d like to think that has earned me this chance; and now it’s down to me to prove myself to the manager and just see what happens from there.
"The most important things is that England qualify for the World Cup in 2010 and any part I can play in helping us do that will make me immensely proud.
"I can't wait to meet up with the squad today - this is just an incredible moment for me and now I want to push on and do the very best I can for England."
Wow congrats!
