Chelsea defender Slobodan Rajkovic has been banned from playing for a year.
The Serbian is on loan with Twente in Holland and has yet to make a Blues appearance after arriving from OFK Belgrade in 2005.
After being sent off in the Olympic match with Argentina he was accused of spitting at referee Abdullah Al Hilali and Fifa have come down hard on the youngster.
The Serbian Football Federation are upset with the severity of the punishment and plan an appeal.
"If this decisionĀ is ratifiedĀ then Rajkovic's right to work will be disturbed," said a spokesman.
"He made a mistake but the punishment is too harsh."
Rajkovic, who was previously on loan at PSV Eindhoven, has also been fined 2,000 Swiss Francs for his late dismissal, one of two from Serbia in injury time, during the 2-0 defeat.
