The Ivorian international, a brother of Arsenal's Kolo Touré, has been strongly linked with a January exit from Camp Nou as he grows frustrated with a lack of first-team action under Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.
As such, Barcelona are believed to be lining up a bid for the 26 year-old Alonso as a replacement for the wantaway African.
The European champion was all set to move to Juventus during the summer, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute due to complications with the Reds' doomed pursuit of Gareth Barry.
However, with the transfer window looming, and with Arsenal and Juventus both linked with a move for Yaya Touré, Alonso could be finally set for the Anfield exit and a Liga return.
When pressed about the possibility of joining the Catalan giants, Alonso was coy when he responded: "I am content at Liverpool and I have still not decided on a concrete date for my return to Primera Liga."
