Arsenal have been in and off form this season. They drew a blank at
Fulham and dropped three points due to a lethargic, disinterested, and
uninspiring performance; yet the Gunners also destroyed Fenerbahce,
Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield United and FC Twente with some
scintillating movement.
Head coach Arsene Wenger believes the
best way to lift silverware, whether in domestic competition or in
Europe, is to favour attacking football over defensive.
Wenger
is reported to have told journalists: "I believe it is the best way to
win trophies... If you get bored the whole year and lift a trophy at
the end of it and then be happy for three days then for me it is worse
to do that. It cannot last. Who plays the best football? Brazil. So why
should there be an opposition to that style of play?
"We went to Fenerbache, who have never lost a Champions League game at home, with a midfield of Under-21 players," he said.
"You
listen to the clubs in Italy and in France and Arsenal are their
model," he added, "We have to be strong enough to keep the way we play
and we can win the Premier League and the Champions League."
