The Italian arrived at Anfield for £7million back in July from Udinese on a four year deal and was widely viewed as a direct placement for John Arne Riise.
Dossena has gone on to make seven starts for the Reds in the Premier League and was part of the Liverpool side that lost their unbeaten record yesterday, going down 2-1 to Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Yet despite helping his side to the summit of the Premier League, the News of the World reports that Benitez has been unimpressed with Dossena’s form.
The paper goes on to claim that as Benitez is also working under financial constraints at Anfield and knows that he must sell players before he can bring new signings in, Dossena is one of those he may be willing to allow to leave.
Dossena, 27, made his debut for Liverpool against Standard Liege in a qualifying game for the Champions League and has gone to become a regular in Benitez’s side.
The left back also have five international caps for Italy and should he be made available he is likely to interest a number of clubs in both the Premier League and Serie A.
Whilst it would seem unlikely that Benitez would sell a player so quickly after signing he does have cover in the shape of Fabio Aurelio and Alvaro Arbeloa who has played in a number of positions along the back four.
