Uefa president Michel Platini had already warned the Italians that
violence would not be tolerated and that any incidents could put the
Rome final of this season's Champions League competition in jeopardy.
Unfortunately, violent incidents reported during the game between Roma
and Chelsea on Tuesday night now threaten the plan to stage the final
in the Eternal City.
Frenchman Platini would have no problem in assigning the final to another city if the thugs continue to spoil the game.
"Rome has to show that they are capable of holding the Champions League final," Platini told Datasport.
"I
am sure that the Romans will know how to get behind this whether or not
Roma get to the final. It's a great city with great fans and it will be
important for everyone."
However, it seems that Platini wasn't
aware of what happened before kick-off. A massive fight broke out
between 50 fans but the Police were quick to react and dealt with the
trouble.
Four fans were left with serious injuries though, while two Roma fans were arrested.
Reports in Italy suggest Rome could end up losing the final once Uefa take note of what happened.
Datasport claims the governing body for football in Europe could take severe action and hand the final over to another host.
It's not the news Italy wanted to hear after trying so hard to make stadiums a safer place over the past two years.
