It was recently reported that AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta had gone to Miami to correct a recurring back problem. If it was deemed necessary that Nesta require surgery, his career would be all but over.
However, the centreback has alleviated the fears of his fans on Friday, when he claimed that surgery would be very unlikely and that he intends to return to the Rossoneri in the near future.
"I don't think I will need surgery," said Nesta before he left for Miami. "The important thing is to take away the pain and resolve the problem as soon as possible without an operation."
Nesta has not played in an offical match for Milan this season, only taking part in a mid-October friendly.
"In the event I do need an operation, there is a risk," admitted the defender, referring to the fact his career as a footballer could be over. "However, I've already been informed that there will be no need and therefore I have no more fears."
Many fans have been wondering if they will see Nesta on the pitch again, and he explained that he intends to rejoin the Rossoneri next month. "I hope to be there (with Milan), for the withdrawal to Dubai."
For the moment, Carlo Ancelotti's side will have to do without their star defender as they take on Lecce this weekend in Serie A action.
