Keane produced a pair of calm left-foot finishes to give Reds a
comfortable leading heading into half-time in yesterday's clash with
the Baggies at Anfield.
They were the Irishman's first Premier
League goals since his £20 million move from Tottenham Hotspur during
the summer, but he insisted he was unworried by his much-publicised
drought.
"Of course it's nice to get the goals," Keane told
Liverpool's official club website. "It's been a while but I knew it was
just a matter of time. I wasn't getting down about things, which is
something I might have done had a been a bit younger or more naive."
Some
would-be pundits have already branded Keane a Kop flop, but others have
called for patience and pointed to the striker's history of dry spells
followed by veritable floods of goals.
The 28-year-old
continued, "Hopefully today you have seen Robbie Keane back to his
best. It's been stop start for me so far but I feel I've been getting
better and better each game and hopefully that can continue."
While
Keane's return to the score-sheet is a great sign, securing all three
points against Tony Mowbray's men was the one and only 'must do' for
Rafael Benitez's men.
The Merseysiders had hit a sticky patch
which culminated in their loss to Spurs last weekend, but yesterday's
win lifted them back to the top of the table.
"It was a good
performance by the lads and we could have scored a few more," Keane
added. "It was important we bounced back after Tottenham last week and
we did that. There is a lot of resilience in this side."
