Any hopes Wigan have of keeping hold of Amr Zaki appear to have been dented by the news that Zamalek will sell the Egypt international to the highest bidder after the expiration of his loan spell at The JJB Stadium.
Zaki has been a resounding success for The Latics, scoring eight goals in 12 Premier League appearances, but Steve Bruce did not include the option to purchase the striker on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
While the 25-year-old has repeatedly underlined the debt he owes Bruce, Manchester City have already shown their interest in Zaki and boast the bottomless pockets of Abu Dhabi United Group if they are to table an offer.
And Zamalek have confirmed that Zaki’s destination will be determined by a straight auction.
"Amr Zaki has been in the limelight for a while, and the mass media have been fueling speculations over his next move and whether Wigan Athletic would let him seal a new deal or not and so forth," Zamalek stated on their official website.
"We hereby assure that we have the legal rights to either accept or reject offers for the aforementioned player, and no other club are authorised to interfere in potential negotiations.
"We would accept the highest bid for the player."
