Jamie Carragher is almost certain to start at right back against Bolton on Saturday after Rafa Benitez revealed Philipp Degen will be sidelined for a month.
Degen limped out of Wednesday’s Carling Cup defeat to Tottenham with a foot problem, and Benitez confirmed the injury will keep him out of action until the back end of 2008.
The Switzerland international was making his long-awaited return to first team action at White Hart Lane, but now Benitez has only Jamie Carragher or Stephen Darby to choose from at The Reebok.
"It's a pity for Philipp because he hasn't had much luck with injuries so far, but hopefully he can come back from this problem quickly," the Liverpool boss told the club’s official website.
"It's always a problem when you have two players for a position and one of them gets injured, and even more of a problem when the other player is suspended for a game - like Alvaro is this weekend.
"But we have options within the squad and we'll have to decide what we want to do for the game at Bolton."
that's it. liverpool downhill from this point onwards....
