Heads you win: Steven Gerrard scores for Liverpool on Saturday
Gerrard, who travelled to north London on Sunday night, will be assessed by England's medical staff on Monday.
On a day when Fabio Capello was reminded of the frustrations that can cling to the England job, goalkeeper Joe Hart withdrew with an ankle ligament injury, prompting a call-up for Paul Robinson. Encouragingly for Capello, John Terry has ignored the soreness in his foot to report for duty, such is his determination to lead England out in Berlin on Wednesday.
Capello's decision to summon Gerrard south while allowing Hart to remain north is bound to provoke debate. Liverpool are adamant their captain is injured. "A scan this morning has confirmed a tear in the adductor magnus muscle in his right leg,'' a Liverpool spokesman said. "He is expected to be out for between seven to 10 days.''
Hart left the KC Stadium on Sunday with his left foot in a pot after damaging ligaments. "He went over on his ankle,'' explained the Manchester City manager, Mark Hughes, after the 2-2 draw with Hull City.
"He will be seen by the [City] medical people in the morning. It will be a minimum of three to four weeks. He's obviously out of the England squad.''
