Nicolas Anelka has risked his international future by admitting he just goes through the motions when playing in friendlies for France.
The Chelsea man, who has set The Premier League alight with 12 goals so far this season, featured in France’s dour 0-0 draw with Uruguay, which drew howls of disapproval from the home crowd.
France have taken their lacklustre Euro 2008 form into their World Cup 2010 qualifying campaign, and there are huge calls for Raymond Domenech’s head after this latest showing.
Anelka’s admittance on Friday could well earn him some flak too, after he stated he would rather not play in friendly internationals.
"If the supporters were bored during the France-Uruguay match, you should know that the players were too," he wrote in his weekly column for www.lesdessousdusport.fr .
"You have to understand the players. We are tired, there are numerous club fixtures.
“France-Uruguay, it was really a friendly match. We had to do it, we did it, that's business.”
