Carr calls time on career

  Former Newcastle United and Republic of Ireland defender Stephen Carr has announced his retirement from football.
  
  The full back, 32, has been without a club since being released by The Magpies at the end of last season, had been linked with a return to the Premier League strugglers under Joe Kinnear, as well as League One high-flyers Leicester City, but has now opted to call time on a career that had failed to live up to its early promise.
