On Tuesday Ronaldo agreed to a controversial move to Brazilian giants
Corinthians, despite the fact that he had been training with his
beloved Flamengo for the last few months.
But although there has
been much speculation that he could return to Europe in the near
future, Ronaldo has affirmed that his intention is to remain in Brazil.
"My
plan is not to return to Europe, I don't intend to use Corinthians as a
trampoline. I already had an incredible life in Europe. But right now I
have signed a contract with a great club, and if things go well, the
doors will surely always be open," Ronaldo told TV Globo.
Other
Brazilians, such as Adriano, returned to Brazilian football to
rediscover their top form before heading back to Europe. But Ronaldo
insists that he is looking forward to his latest challenge, and is
hoping to make it permanent.
According to reports, Corinthians
will organize a high-profile friendly match with a top European club,
most probably Real Madrid, where Ronaldo will likely make his official
Corinthians debut. The match is expected to take place on the 17th of
January, in Sao Paulo.
Finally, Ronaldo stated that he wants to
"return to his all-time best" and that he intends to be the top
goal-scorer of the Paulista State Championship next year.
