Big Phil Scolari has to shop in bargain basement now
EMILE HESKEY, Kenwyne Jones and Kevin Davies are the shock names on Luiz Felipe Scolari’s New Year shopping list.
The Chelsea boss will be forced to scour the bargain bucket for the striker he has made a priority. It’s in stark contrast to the last transfer window when Roman Abramovich was prepared to smash the British transfer record for Robinho.
Sights But times have changed dramatically since August 31 when only a last-minute bid by Manchester City gazumped Chelsea.
Even so, eyebrows will be raised that Scolari now has the likes of Heskey, Davies and Jones — who scored twice in Sunderland’s 4-0 win over West Brom — in his sights.
All three are big, powerful strikers in the mould of Didier Drogba, which is sure to increase speculation over the Ivorian’s future at Stamford Bridge.
Price
Jones would be the perfect replacement for Drogba but even a £9million transfer tag might prove too prohibitive for owner Abramovich.
He would prefer a smaller outlay for a player who is initially only likely to cover for Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.
England striker Heskey will be one of the most sought-after players in the window. With only six months of his contract remaining, Wigan owner Dave Whelan ready to cash in.
Both Heskey and Bolton’s 31-year-old Davies would only cost in the region of £3m — a price that would suit Chelsea down to the ground.
A Blues insider explained: “All three are similar players who would give Chelsea a totally different option and that’s something we desperately need.
“Okay, they might not score a lot of goals themselves but they are all a handful and can create havoc in any defence.
“The fact is, the days of big spending are over . . . and they won’t be back for a while.”

Should be bluff one. I think Chelsea wanted jones all along. All the others is just a ruse in order to buy jones at a not-so-high price.

well, I don't think that physical players will win the game.
In the last game vs Hammers, they were evenly matched in a few depts. Of course, with Lee Clarke on the hammers coaching staffs, it was easier for them to know what Chelsea can throw at them. But instead of just soaking and booting, Hammers did try to play their way out of trouble.
Also, Carlton Cole was able to stand up to Terry and Alex and this was crucial as it allows Bellamy to run.. Scott Parker played well too.
To me, it was just belief in themselves that got the hammers the one point.
