Mega-rich Manchester City, only outside the Premier League relegation
zone on account of their decent goal difference, will hope to buy
happiness in the New Year.
The Citizens were always going to
splash the cash in January in any case, but now some injury niggles
mean that the squad really could do with some strength in depth.
Striker
Benjani Mwaruwari is set to be out for a few weeks, having sustained a
hamstring injury during the eventual 1-0 defeat at the hands of Everton
at the weekend.
The Zimbabwean, who moved to Eastlands from
Portsmouth in the early part of this year, has seen his City career
stall due to a thigh complaint.
Now, fearing for his long-term
future at the club, he'll have to sweat nervously on the sidelines,
watching for transfer updates when the window re-opens shortly.
Boss Mark Hughes told the club's official website: "We've lost Benjani again at the weekend with a hamstring and he'll
probably be out for a number of weeks. We're a bit threadbare.
"A number of the guys are carrying injuries, so that will have an impact.
"When you've got games coming up thick and fast; you have to have a fit and able squad."
