Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia insists that he still recognises the authority of one Emirates king: William Gallas.
Boss
Arsene Wenger stripped the French stopper of his armband after deeming
his tabloid exposé on Arsenal's dressing room goings-on the last staw
as far as Gallas' controversial captaincy was concerned.
In his place, of course, young Cesc Fabregas was given the task of leading the Gunners on a permanent basis.
Since
then, Gallas has upped his game - something goalie Almunia admits -
while Fabregas has been ruled out for four months with a knee injury.
Perhaps
the young skipper's injury status has loosened the Spaniard's tongue,
as he's seemingly pledged his allegiance to Gallas, who popped up to
score a crucial winner over Portsmouth at the weekend.
Almunia is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:
"William is an unbelievable professional: a real winner and a strong
character, who has more trophies than anyone else in the team.
"He will fight for the team, in every aspect. We are on William's side and everyone supports him.
"Even
though he is not the captain, we follow him. I play with so much
confidence when William is playing in front of me, as I have so much
respect for him."
