  The Wigan Athletic manager has moved to praise a player who hasn't always been regarded as one of the Premier League's more consistent performers.

  “Many people have mocked him. He has become a laughing stock and been ridiculed," the Wigan boss told The Manchester Evening News.
  
  "But he is having a great season - he played well against Bolton - and has put in performance after performance lately. I hope that continues."
