Martin O’Neill has hinted that he will look to reunite the deadly partnership of Emile Heskey and Michael Owen at Villa Park in the summer.
Heskey became an Aston Villa player on Friday when completing a £3.5 million move from Wigan and links up once again with the man who fostered his early development at Leicester City.
Heskey’s performances for The Foxes earned him a move to Liverpool in 2000 where he dovetailed neatly with Owen, but it is their partnership at international level that brought such success for both parties – most notably in the 5-1 win in Germany in 2001 when Owen claimed a hat-trick and Heskey finished the rout.
Owen is out of contract in six months and will not talk terms with Newcastle until the end of the season when he could earn a lucrative move as a free agent, a situation that may well have alerted O’Neill.
“I’m not saying that I will move for Owen in the summer, I’ve not looked at anything at that remote a distance,” said O’Neill in The Sun.
“But that’s not to say Michael Owen is not a terrific player. We wait to see.
“Anything is possible. Kaka is a possibility!
“We want to try and compete at this level but what’s happening in the future? I have no idea.”
Owen should still be able to do pretty well once he gets out of his injuries nightmare but shouldn't he be repaying at least some amount of money Newcastle paid him over the years?? in transfer fee or something..
