The champions trimmed Barcelona's lead at the top to nine points thanks to a clinical strike by Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain just after the break.
Raul headed the ball into Higuain's path and he raced into the area, turned inside a sliding challenge from Cesar Navas and clipped the ball over Tono into the far corner.

SEVILLA 1 REAL BETIS 2
Third-placed Sevilla lost further ground on Real after goals from Sergio Garcia and new signing Ricardo Oliveira gave Betis a 2-1 win and condemned their city rivals to a third consecutive league defeat.
Sevilla midfielder Aldo Duscher was dismissed for a second yellow card with around 20 minutes left and Garcia gave Betis the lead immediately after. Oliveira grabbed a second late on when he fired the ball under Andres Palop and Frederic Kanoute headed a consolation goal for Sevilla in added time.
