Head boy: Fernando Torres (right) puts Liverpool 1-0 up against Chelsea as Blues defender Alex dives in
Barcelona are lining up a summer swoop for Liverpool's star striker Fernando Torres. The Spanish giants have placed the Euro 2008 winner on their short list for next season as a potential replacement for Thierry Henry and Samuel Eto'o.
Henry will be 32 this summer while Barcelona have yet to open contract talks with Eto'o who current deal ends in 2010.
Eto'o almost left the Nou Camp last year and later this month Barca sporting director Txiki Begiristain and coach Pep Guardiola are scheduled to meet to discuss new additions for next season.
There is a growing feeling that either Henry or Eto'o will leave and Torres is greatly admired by the Barcelona management.
Joan Laporta, the Barcelona president, met Torres at the recent FIFA World Player gala dinner. It was an informal chat with Barcelona superstars Leo Messi and Xavi also present but it was seen as an important meeting as a basis for any future negotiations.
Inter Milan are keen on Eto'o and Barcelona are aware of Liverpool's precarious financial position.
Ageing: Thierry Henry
Out of contract: Samuel Eto'o

Torres : the male version of Britney Spears according to Chelsea fans...
Liverpool ace Torres, who headed the winner in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Portsmouth, has been troubled by hamstring injuries all season.
Boss Benitez wanted his £21.5million striker left out of the squad for Spain’s friendly with England tomorrow.
He needs to protect Torres, 24, having let Robbie Keane re-join Spurs in January. Benitez said: “It is obvious he is not ready, that can be seen when he plays. “Every day I see him, sometimes he appears to be at his best and at other times not.”
Spain and Barcelona star Andres Iniesta hopes to repeat one of the best moments of his career against England. Iniesta, 24, fired a superb volley in Spain’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford in February 2007.
The midfielder said: “England are one of the world’s best teams, everyone wants to play in this kind of game. “They are a much stronger team now.”

Fernando Torres has pledged his long-term future to Liverpool despite reports in Spain that Barcelona are weighing up a big-money move.

Speaking ahead of Spain's friendly with England on Wednesday, Torres insists he is happy to stay at Anfield and cannot imagine himself playing for "any other team".
He said: "I don't see myself playing for Real Madrid, or Barcelona or Chelsea or any other team.
"I see myself playing for Liverpool. I have a long contract and that's that."
