Cho Won-hee has been granted a work permit and will link up with Wigan's first- team squad at the JJB Stadium this weekend.
The 25 year-old was signed by manager Steve Bruce after impressing in a trial last month and will fly out of Korea on Saturday after tidying up a few minor details back home.
Speaking to the local press, Cho is glad the move is now confirmed and could not wait to begin training with his new team-mates.
"The work visa is all but confirmed. It is being sent to me from the Philippines and I will be able to leave on the 7th," said the versatile midfielder.
"I don't know Steve Bruce and the team that well personally, but I'm very excited to be going there.
"At the moment my English needs a bit of work, but I'll be working very hard on my lessons."
The former Suwon Bluewings star will wear the number five jersey and is expected to be in the squad for Wigan's Premier League clash against Sunderland on 14 March.
Wigan are ready to thrust midfielder Cho Won-Hee straight into first-team action after signing the South Korea international on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old, who was unattached, impressed during a trial last month and has signed for two-and-a-half years.
"He can make a significant impact in the Premier League. He has a terrific attitude," said Wigan boss Steve Bruce.
"I could tell straight away that he was a good player. He is fast, strong and determined."
Cho is expected to be available for Saturday's game at Sunderland, though Wigan are waiting for a confirmation letter from the South Korean football association.
He had been playing for Suwon Blue Wings in South Korea's K-League but left to pursue a career in Europe and had a trial with French league club Monaco.

uhmm abt work permit thingy..
is it abt a player must reach at least 75% of his respective country yearly participation
to entitle a chance to move to European leagues? regardless of the FIFA world rankings..
I think got special case lor... But a lot mostly for Chinese players leh...
Sun Jihai and Fan Zhiyi signed for Crystal Palace in 1998, maybe that time haven't start yet and Palace was in lower league I think...
But Li Tie also signed for Everton but that one maybe got sometime to do with their sponsor Kejian...
The thing is must apply lor, and they will go case by case but usually under 75 more difficult... Unless you are a player like George Weah from Liberia lah... Rank 142 in the world but good skill enough... I guess they do this to keep the standard at a higher level lor...

Wigan's Won-Hee Cho is out for the rest of the season after tearing two calf muscles on international duty with South Korea last week.
Midfielder Cho was initially kicked in the leg during South Korea's friendly against Iraq in Seoul on March 28, worsening the injury in the World Cup qualifier with North Korea four days later.
Wigan head physio Dave Galley said: "We scanned the injury as soon as Won-Hee returned to us last week, and we can confirm he has a grade three tear of two of his calf muscles."
With the end of the season seven weeks away, and with such injuries requiring six to eight weeks to heal, it is extremely unlikely Cho will make his debut this season.
Cho, who signed for Wigan as a free agent last month after allowing his contract with Suwon Blue Wings to expire, said: "This is very frustrating for me.
"I was so desperate to show the manager and the fans what I can do. But I will now have to work my hardest to get fit."
Expressing his own disappointment, Bruce remarked: "It's unfortunate for the lad because he was so willing and has shown a terrific attitude.
"But our team are working on him and we will do everything we can to get him back as soon as we can."
LOL!
