Valencia have confirmed they have held talks with Manchester City over the possible sale of striker David Villa.
The Spanish giants are in dire financial straits and having struggled to pay players’ wages, admitted last week that they may need to cash in on star names.
Spain striker Villa is Valencia’s most saleable asset and it would appear City are circling with intent.
When asked if Valencia had met with City to discuss Villa, Che vice-president Fernando Gomez said: "Yes, it's true but they didn't make us an any offer.
"The president (Vicente Soriano) asked for a significant amount and they didn't agree."
David Silva is another player in the shop window, but Valencia say they will not be forced into a fire sale.
"I think they are two very important players, with a lot of quality and, if we sell them, we are not going to sell them on the cheap," said Gomez.
He added: "I would like them both to stay. But we cannot discard anything and any of them (the players) could leave at the end of the season."
